Finally I can console into my devices.

Finally I can console into my devices.

At around 1.30pm, a post man knocked on my door with a package. Great the keyspan has arrived. I ordered this product since 27th of March 2010 after being frustrated with the usb-rs232 converter which I had bought.

The keyspan is easy to install, just plug and play, no compatibility problems, I console into my devices with ease.

I have bought my switches from a good vendor, great service too for delivering the devices to my home without charging me extra.

The usual problem with used switches bought from someone is there are vtp domains configured and vlan information (vlan.dat) that’s not erased.

Well, I do not have this problem: look at my 2950:
Directory of flash:/

2 -rwx 3132298 Mar 01 1993 00:18:07 +00:00 c2950-i6q4l2-mz.121-22.EA13.bin

It’s clean, no config, no vlan, all interfaces are in dynamic desirable, this is the factory default.

look at this show interface switchport:

Switch#sh interface switchport
Name: Fa0/1
Switchport: Enabled
Administrative Mode: dynamic desirable
Operational Mode: down
Administrative Trunking Encapsulation: dot1q
Negotiation of Trunking: On
Access Mode VLAN: 1 (default)
Trunking Native Mode VLAN: 1 (default)
Voice VLAN: none
Administrative private-vlan host-association: none
Administrative private-vlan mapping: none
Administrative private-vlan trunk native VLAN: none
Administrative private-vlan trunk encapsulation: dot1q
Administrative private-vlan trunk normal VLANs: none
Administrative private-vlan trunk private VLANs: none
Operational private-vlan: none
Trunking VLANs Enabled: ALL
Pruning VLANs Enabled: 2-1001
Capture Mode Disabled
Capture VLANs Allowed: ALL
Protected: false
Appliance trust: none

all the interfaces from fa0/1 to 24 are the same. Great. Fortunately there’s an interface range command available for easy management.

I have checked my other 2950 too, it’s a factory default with the image I requested my vendor to upgrade.

Now, the most exciting one will be my 3550 multilayer switch!

Switch#sh flash

Directory of flash:/

2 -rwx 9707290 Mar 1 1993 00:08:08 +00:00 c3550-ipservicesk9-mz.122-44.SE6.bin

Great, except for the IOS nothing was in the flash, clean….

All interfaces are dynamic desirable, all in factory default… Ahh… Tired now, I will set up my term server tomorrow.
